Sep 05 2008¡VIVA LUCHA LIBRE! a Group Show Celebrating Mexico's Wrestlers at Manichaus
Several local artists will be
presenting their renditions of Lucha Libre (Mexican Wrestling) in a group show
titled "¡VIVA LUCHA LIBRE!" at Manichaus (pronounced: manic house) in McAllen,
from September 5 to 19, 2008. A reception will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
on September 5, 2008. Manichaus is located at 1301-B, North Main Street in
McAllen. Admission is free.
The masked wrestler has been an icon of
Mexican culture for over 50 years. He is both hero and villain. In his
anonymity, he represents all walks of life struggling to overcome adversity. It
doesn't matter that wrestling is not real . . . neither is
theater.
Expect paintings, sculpture, and mixed media work from the
following artists: Lisette Chavez, Rene Z. Garza, Carl Vestweber, Chris Leonard,
Carla San Martin, Lisa Valadez, Paul Valadez, Aleida Garcia and others! A
special short film by David Molina will be screened as well.
Gallery
hours are: Monday through Friday, 12 Noon to 6pm; and Saturdays by appointment.
Please call 956-207-0940 or e-mail: manichaus@gmail.com for more information.
Manichaus is a 2008-09 McAllen Arts Council grant recipient.
