“UTRGV’s Role in Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Our Region” at January’s I&E Network at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce
Thursday, January 26th from 6 PM to 8 PM, we will be meeting at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce once again. As we enter into 2017, there is no doubt that interest in entrepreneurship is flourishing. A recent study sponsored by Babson College shows that 27 million working-age Americans–nearly 14 percent–are starting or running a new business. The Rio Grande Valley is no exception. Business Incubators and Co-working spaces are popping up. There are entrepreneurship organizations and clubs, sponsored workshops on the subject and The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley even changed the name of the business college to the Vackar College of Business and Entrepreneurship. While the valley has had some success in the innovation and entrepreneurship arena, there is not a true Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in which the resources work together. Within each community the resources are sitting in silos helping only those who may be aware of the offerings. Laurie Simmons, Manager of the Center for Innovation and Commercialization at UTRGV will discuss UTRGV’s role in innovation and entrepreneurship in our region and make a case that entrepreneurial endeavors don’t happen in isolation or in silos but rather through collaboration and community.
Do you want to know what it takes to have successful innovation? Do you have an idea that has what it takes to be the next disruptive innovation? Do not miss out the benefits you can get from our next meeting.
“This program motivates participants to move their ideas from an intangible state to a tangible one,” said, Jorge Sanchez, Director of Business Development and Start-ups at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce.
