he McAllen Business Plan Competition is an initiative to foster new business development in the McAllen Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). A prize of $5,000 will be awarded to selected applicant. The Business Plan Competition is for new, independent, for-profit ventures in the seed or start-up stages in the McAllen area. All ventures must demonstrate market feasibility and the ability to obtain financing from customary lenders.
The competition is intended to simulate the real-world process of entrepreneurs soliciting start-up funds from early-stage investors and venture capital firms. The judges function as venture capital investors deciding on which business venture they would most likely fund. The quality of the idea, the strength of the management team, and the clarity and persuasiveness of the written plan and oral presentation, all influence the judges’ decisions. Ultimately, the winning team should be the team in which the judges would most likely invest money.
The competition is divided into two (2) phases. The selection round is based on a 4 pages executive summary, and the presentation round is a 20 pages business plan with an oral presentation.
