The City of McAllen is hosting Move it, McAllen! a free, low impact outdoor exercise event to help encourage McAllen citizens and residents to move and exercise during the day for better health and peace of mind.
The 30-minute exercise session will focus on stretching and low-impact movement through simple yoga and tai chi movements.
“We want people to be able to get the health benefits of moving, but still be able to go back to the office if they need to,” said Mayor Darling. “It should be a really fun, yet relaxing exercise session to get the blood flowing.”
No special equipment or supplies will be required, as the movements will focus on moves that can be done without getting down on the ground or needing mats. Comfortable clothes are best, but the idea is that if people must return to work, they can do so easily.
The event is being coordinated as part of the City of McAllen’s participation in the It’s Time Texas! community health challenge competition. Participants will be asked to register for the challenge, if they are not signed up and all will be asked to take a Healthy Selfie, which can then be uploaded to the site. The City of McAllen receives points for various activities. McAllen is currently in second place in the Large City category.
