The Santa Fe Wine Classic is scheduled for Friday, October 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and this year, the theme is “Casablanca.” Guests are encouraged to attend dressed in the 1940s or Morrocan inspired attire. Housing this impressive event is Quinta Mazatlan, the City’s quintessential adobe estate located at 600 Sunset Blvd in McAllen. The Wine Classic will highlight over 200 wines including such top brands as Cakebread Cellars, Château Latour and Vega Sicilia.
Restaurant chefs will craft specialty dishes to tempt the attendees’ taste palates. Included this year will be Santa Fe Steakhouse, Republic of the Rio Grande, The Spanish Room, Kumori Sushi & Teppanyaki, Mori Steakhouse, and Bodega Tavern & Kitchen.
Music by Grupo Aché will be featured again this year, as well as a cigar bar, a silent auction, and a champagne, mimosa & dessert lounge – which are always a crowd-pleaser.
All this is done for one cause – the McAllen Chamber of Commerce Education Initiatives.
“With the help of the Wine Classic, over a million dollars have been donated to the Chamber’s initiatives,” said Gerry Garcia, McAllen Chamber of Commerce vice-president of Special Projects & Government Affairs. “This has become a prominent event for McAllen, and every year we sell out since we only have 350 tickets to offer,” Garcia added. “Anyone wishing to attend must get their tickets as soon as possible.”
“I think this is a prime example of one of the most important works a Chamber can do in a community – team up with a business and give back to the community,” said Albert Rego. “The whole event is about philanthropy and giving back to students who might not have enough to make it at college without this help or who just deserve this recognition of their hard work.”
A silent auction is another way to help raise funds. An array of one-of-a-kind items will be offered to the highest bidders. Of course, the higher it goes, the more money for the students.
Of course, all of this couldn’t happen without the tremendous sponsors: Besides Santa Fe Steakhouse & Cantina and the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, there are Presenting Sponsors Boggus Ford/Lincoln and L&F Distributors, as well as Classic Sponsors IBC Bank; Atlas Electrical, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration & Plumbing Services; Anzalduas International Bridge; McAllen-Hidalgo International Bridge; Frost Bank; South Texas Health System, and Cantu Special Events.
Tickets for general admission are $150 per person, tables can be reserved for $1,500, sponsorships are $2,500 for Classic Sponsors and $5,000 for Presenting Sponsors. Contact Gerry Garcia at the Chamber for specific details on sponsorships.
