City Officials, Stakeholders Visit State Capitol during 88th Legislative Session

McAllen Chamber of Commerce led more than 80 members including City officials, stakeholders and partners to raise awareness on issues that impact the Rio Grande Valley during the 88th Legislative Session in Austin.

McAllen leaders brought to light concerning border security, boosting the health care work force, Texas Economic Development Act, funding for UTRGV School of Medicine and McAllen Independent School District, the Anzalduas International Bridge Land Port of Entry Expansion, Center for Urban Ecology at Quinta Mazatlán, among many others.

The group met with various officials including Director of the Governor’s Office of Appointments Peggy Venable, Texas Environmental Quality Commissioner Emily Lindley and Texas Railroad Commissioner Jim Wright.

Nationally recognized UTRGV Ballet Folklorico students represented the Valley with their annual show “Alegria,” a colorful dance that tells the story of Mexico on the first floor of the Rotunda. The performance received a standing ovation from the patrons at the Capitol.

Time was also set aside with Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, Executive Director of the Office of Economic Development & Tourism Adriana Cruz, Texas Workforce Commissioner Albert Treviño III and Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D.

McAllen Day in Austin 2023 ended with a reception at the Capitol Conference Center.
